Welcome to the memorial page for

Vernon Rose

April 17, 1952 ~ August 11, 2017 (age 65)

Vernon Rose, 65 of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away on August 11, 2017. He was born on April 17, 1952 in Canton, Illinois to parents, Albert and Clarabelle (Miller) Rose. He spent time in Missouri, Florida, Splendora, and eventually settled in Alvin, Texas with his family. He was a long haul trucker driver for 35 years, until 2009 when he retired. He moved to Hallettsville, Texas in 2014. Vernon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Vernon loved travelling in his truck and seeing the country, and missed that tremendously once he retired. When he moved to Hallettsville, the land became his truck - and he found his love for life again. He had to always keep busy. Despite having had a stroke and only having minimal use of his right side - he cleared land; built things, including an addition onto his home and other furniture; and he enjoyed working hard. He always found a way to get things done, and he didn’t like feeling sorry for himself.  Vernon loved his daughters and his 7 grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved his 3 cats - aka “the crew”.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Clarabelle Rose; and grandson, Anthony Johnson.

He is survived by his daughters: Melissa Crowder and husband Stephen of Katy, Texas, and Melanie Johnson and husband Steven of Alvin, Texas; and grandchildren: Tyler Tucker, Faith Pless, Alex Crowder, Ashley Devin Johnson, Grace Johnson, and Jason Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alvin ISD Education Foundation - for the “Anthony Johnson Memorial Band Spirit Scholarship” fund.
