Henry Ellis Benson, Jr. 83, of Alvin passed away on May 18, 2015. He was born on December 27, 1931 in New Hebron, Mississippi to parents Henry Ellis Benson, Sr. and Eula Mae Martin. He moved to Houston in 1945 and graduated from Milby High School in 1951. Henry attended University of Houston on a track scholarship when he joined the Army to serve his country during the Korean War, and later graduated after his return in 1964. He married his wife of 57 years Marietta on December 27, 1957 in Houston, Texas. He retired from Western Electric with thirty years of service. Henry loved spending time with his family, raising horses, and repairing saddles. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Bertha May Rowden, his brothers Kenneth Benson and Mike Hammond, and his daughter Brenda Ann.  He is survived by his wife; his daughters, Laura Benson of Alvin, Judy Boren and husband Lester of Rosharon, Cathy LeBouef and husband Keith of Danbury; sister Maxine Pentecost of Houston.  Grandchildren: Lonny LeBlanc and fiancée Priscilla. Jennifer Weissbach and husband Danny. Christen Vaughn and fiancée John Arnold. Steven Vaughn and fiancée Jessi Strader. Brian Kennedy. Mark Benson and fiancée Maegan Carr. Cody Lewis. Harley Boren. Jordan, Seth and Wyatt LeBouef.  Great-grandchildren: Amethyst and Dominic LeBlanc, Draygen and Decker Weissbach, Marek Benson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Park Chapel at 300 Oak Park Dr in Alvin, Texas 77511.  A reception will follow at First Presbyterian Church of Alvin at 302 South Johnson in Alvin, Texas 77511.  His final resting place will be at Houston National Cemetery at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, Texas 77038.  If you would like to make a donation in memory of Henry Benson, donations are being accepted by Texas Equusearch at www.txeq.org.
