John went home to his heavenly Father on March 9, 2016. He passed in his home in Alvin, Texas at age 59.
John was born April 18, 1956 in Houston, Texas to Betty Joe and Robert Edward Stokes.
John graduated from Pearland High School in 1975 and went on to college at Texas A&M University. He was very bright and graduated with honors in 1979 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marine Biology.
John was a longtime resident of Alvin and made his home there for 36 years. He worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years before retiring in August 2013. While John was unmarried and without children, he was a favorite among his many nieces and nephews who fondly remember him as “the fun uncle”. He will be greatly missed by his many surviving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert E. Stokes in 1996. He is survived by his mother Betty Joe Stokes of Sweeny, TX; his brother Robert Edward Stokes of Colorado Springs, CO; sister Linda Sue Johnson of Paragould, AK; sister Deborah Ann Leavitt of Sweeny, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
John will be laid to rest in Confederate Cemetery in Alvin and a memorial will be held for family at a later date.
