Ofelia (Fira) Elliott

Ofelia Fira Elliott passed away early on Saturday, August 4th. She and her twin sister were born on May 19, 1952 in Sinton, TX to Oralia (Lala) Vasquez. Ofie, as she's known to most, grew up there in Sinton, graduated, and joined the United States Air Force to become part of the very first all female flight crew in the history of the USAF. She chased space shuttles, documented missile testing logistics in flight, and visited multiple countries and continents all over the world. It was on one of these visits to Okinawa, Japan that she met her late husband, Gary Elliott. They went on to marry and have 2 children. After Gary passed, Ofie retired from a full and honorable 20 year military career with her children in Alvin, TX. Whether winning at Bingo or catching a deal at the local resell shop, Ofie was not often idle or  alone. She well known and loved by many, and in recent years enjoyed visiting friends with her favorite sidekick and grandson. She is survived by her children, Jason Victor and Samantha Elliott and Bethanie Belen Elliott, her grandchild, Jason Lee Elliott, her 5 siblings, Celia, Mary Alice, Henry, Salvador, and Criselda, and many nieces and nephews. There are also a multitude of friends and honorary family members who will carry her spirit and remember her ready laughter and her unfailing generosity.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home located at 120 S, McCall Ave., Sinton, Texas 78387. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Guadalupe Church located at 725 Sodville St., Sinton, Texas 78387. A Committal will immediately follow at Eternal Rest Cemetery located at 9129 US Business 77 North, Sinton, Texas 78387. 

Arrangements for a Celebration of Life Memorial to be held in Alvin, Texas, will be announced in the coming days. Thank you all for the outpouring of love and support. It is heart-warming to have daily reminders of Ofie's high regard in the community.
